Meet Gabby

Hi…
I’m Gabby!
Welcome to GabbysSketchbook.com

I have been drawing and creating art as long as I can remember. In school my art teachers encouraged me to practice architecture or portraiture, but it wasn’t until I turned 18 and got my apprenticeship as a tattoo artist that I was trained to specialize in portraits and realism.

During my apprenticeship I felt the most creative, being in a competitive artistic environment, and told to draw “something impressive” for 8 hours a day. Studying and practicing in all different forms of art and their cultural origin. One day I told my mentor I wanted to draw something tribal but realistic, he told me that didn’t make sense… But my mind had other ideas, these were some of the pieces I presented him…

Deciding I didn’t want to be part of the tattoo world, over the years I have worked with various forms of art and mediums. Some of my favorites are melted crayon on canvas, etchings, chalk pastels, and incorporation of dried flowers, or gold leaf! I’ve painted on countless canvases like giant walls, swimming pools, RVs, wood based pieces are one of my favorite backgrounds.

Flowers, cactus, cactus flowers! Haha but really, plants and people are my favorite subjects and are incorporated in most all of my art.

Along with realism, faces, animals, flowers, I love to add a little surrealism. Including optical illusions and hard line work.

Drawn with pen.

My favorite way to express myself however is simply with pencil and paper. Something so timeless about a black and grey portrait. The way the pencil can draw every single detail, and produce every shade light to dark.

My goal for the future is to draw commissioned portraits all day every day. Continue to further my skills practicing details and line work. And possibly doing portrait tattoos again one day.

For pricing and availability for a commissioned piece, contact me directly from my “INQUIRIES” page and we can create a unique piece of art to brighten your home and cherish forever. Until then I’ll be in my studio, forever drawing in Gabby’s Sketchbook…
